Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
