A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation grappling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.

The purpose of the attack has not been established and no one has been arrested have been made, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Law enforcement indicated that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a location close to the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the property overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities stated.

Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the incident.

Key evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the scene.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.

"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to establish their location," remarked an authority figure.
