Paceman Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Concerns.

'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his left leg after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management indicated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway at the end of the week.

England have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, on the final ball of that over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match after being left out of the third.
