Person Who Approached Ariana Grande on the occasion of Film Launch Banned from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted over a barricade and grabbed actress Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was handed a penalty to more than a week in detention for disrupting public order and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities stated to Singaporean press.
He forced his way beyond security and approached aggressively the actress and singer, who was present at the Asian premier for the film on 13 November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The singer has mentioned suffering from PTSD after a terrorist bombing at her performance in Manchester in several years ago took the lives of over twenty people and hurt numerous attendees.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had tried to gain access on the movie's debut twice, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Event security stopped him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared recordings expressing gratitude to the star for letting him on the carpet and said he was "at liberty."
Law enforcement took him into custody the next day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Court Judge the magistrate was quoted by Channel News Asia as stating that Wen was "attention seeking", noting that he was mistaken to believe he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not addressed the situation.
Erivo discussed the situation to a media outlet, saying that she "just wanted to ensure my co-star was protected."
"I'm sure he had no intention to us injury, but you can't predict with such situations, and I wanted to make sure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she stated.
