The Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series since the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I want up in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a championship series.

Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto claimed the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
