The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
