Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Raise Tension on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals cannot be true Spurs fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th Premier League at home defeat of the year.

However the primary talking point was Fulham's second goal when Vicario gave away possession far outside his area.

He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the touchline.

However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Seconds later when the ball went to the keeper again, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.

A particular of those jeering sessions really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters apparently jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Dane commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be real Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are behind one another moving ahead."

Tete had handed Fulham a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period performance.

Former Premier League keeper Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally preventable".

"I do understand the supporters' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is playing. He's a great squad member, he's a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italy national team Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old stated after the game that he had to take the criticism.

"The second score was a error of my own, I accept accountability for it," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."

He said receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on us to stay increasingly calm, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to reverse outcomes. This match is a bad defeat and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'

Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the second most distant Premier League goal of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on Saturday.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to aim for.

10 seconds passed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the clearance.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for ages," he remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When not one of them defended the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of additional time. Then it was all about attempting to make the correct contact and place it towards goal. I felt a good sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

Although Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.

The match was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint club statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders the Reds to play before the close of the season.

Just a single of those wins have come since the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to work against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost another match. Every game has a single narrative, today we lost in the early stages.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four straight at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording nine point five shots and 3.2 shots on target per game in the Premier League – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a prestigious job at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
